ODM Leader Raila Odinga was in Dar es Salaam on August 25, 2021, to visit the families of former Tanzanian Heads of State, Benjamin Mkapa and John Pombe Magufuli.

The former Prime Minister enjoyed a good relationship with the two leaders dating back to the 90s.

Odinga was accompanied in the visits by his youngest daughter, Winnie Odinga.

"I passed by to visit the families of my good friends Presidents Benjamin Mkapa and John Magufuli. Great to see Mama Anna Mkapa and Mama Janeth Magufuli in high spirits.

"Mungu azilaze roho zao mahali pema peponi (May God rest their souls in eternal peace)," Odinga tweeted.

The former premier and his daughter made the stop in Dar es Salaam after attending the inauguration of Zambia's seventh President, Hakainde Hichilema.

Mkapa served as president of Tanzania between 1995 and 2005. He passed away on July 24, 2020, at the age of 81.

Magufuli was the fifth president of Tanzania and was in office from 2015 until his untimely demise on March 17, 2021.

Odinga and Magufuli enjoyed a good relationship and were close family friends. The two had visited each other's rural homes on a number of occasions.
