Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said getting a new wife is not on top of his priorities following his separation with Lilian Nganga.
In an article published by Nation on Sunday, Mutua, however, did not completely dismiss the possibility of marrying another wife before his terms ends, noting that “only time will tell”.
“I have been asked whether people should expect another First Lady for Machakos before my term ends. My answer is simple: Moi ruled this country for 24 years without a First Lady. But time will tell,” he said.
Governor Mutua is currently serving his last term as Governor of Machakos having by elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. The Constitution of Kenya limits governors to two terms, meaning he only has about 11 months before leaving office.
If he is to get another wife and have her serve as new Machakos County First Lady, then it must happen before August next year when the elections are scheduled to take place.

While announcing the separation, Lillian also noted that she had stepped down from being the County First Lady.
“The only constant in life is change and we must be present and aware to appreciate and embrace it. Winds of change blew my way and two months ago, I decided to end the long term relationship with Dr Alfred Mutua.
"With this, I put down the Machakos First Lady cap - and what an honor it has been to be of service. I will continue to do my projects close to my heart, charity work etc through the 'Lilian Nganga Foundation' as this has always been formed who i am as a person,” she said.
Reacting to Lillian’s statement, Governor Mutua confirmed that they had agreed to separate and end their relationship two months ago.
The Machakos Governor added that they would remain close friends with Ms. Nganga adding that she will remain a close advisor.
"There is a song by Roger Whittaker that has the line: “the first time we said hello, we started to say goodbye. Lillian and I have been a blessing to each other. Two months ago, we decided to slowly disengage. We are in amicable terms and remain very close as friends. We will continue to talk, meet and share ideas constantly,” he said.
