Deputy President William Ruto is well known to be among the wealthiest people in the country thanks to his business interests cutting across various sectors of the economy.
For a while, a number of properties owned by the DP have remained unknown to the general public, until some of them were revealed to Kenyans by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i.
While appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and National Security to answer for the deputy president's alleged security downgrade, the CS listed a number of properties belonging to the DP which are being afforded security by the police.
As explained by CS Matiang'i, the deputy president is protected by three layers of security officers: 74 Presidential Escort Commandos, 5 GSU, and 6 DCI officers who form the inner circle. He is also guarded by 121 APS from SGB and CIPU Units.
The third layer is comprised of 51 Auxiliary Security deployed in various properties owned by the DP.

Some of the properties owned by the deputy president and afforded protection by security agencies include;
1. Kitengela Gas
According to Matiang'i, the oil and gas company is owned by DP Ruto and is allocated 6 security officers.
2. Weston Hotel
The hotel is owned by DP Ruto, and its ownership is well known by members of the public.
The luxurious hotel located in Lang'ata, Nairobi is guarded by 4 security officers who interchange to provide 24 hour security to the premise.

3. Murumbi Farm - Transmara, Narok
DP Ruto owns 395 hectares (about 1000 acres) of land in Transmara, which is allocated 6 security officers.
4. ADC Laikipia Mutara Ranch
The deputy president owns a ranch in Laikipia County which is 15,000 acres in size. The ranch is guarded by 6 officers.
5. Dolphine Hotel, Mombasa
The luxurious hotel sits on 3 hectares of land on Shanzu Beach, Mombasa. It is touted as the largest hotel in Mombasa following its re-construction which began in 2016, and saw its room capacity increased to 600.
The three-floor hotel was acquired by the Weston hotels and is said to have cost Ksh600 million.
According to CS Matiang'i, the hotel is protected by 6 police officers.

6. Mata Farm, Taita Taveta
DP Ruto owns a 2,537 acre ranch in Taita Taveta. The ranch is allocated 6 security officers who offer 24-hour protection.
7. Elgon View Residence
The deputy president owns a house in the leafy Elgon View estate in Eldoret town which is guarded by 4 security officers.
8. Koitalel Poultry Farm
DP Ruto's Koitalel poultry farm is protected by 4 security officers.
9. Private residence in Kosachei, Eldoret
The hustler nation leader owns a home in Kosachei that is kept guard by three officers from the Kenya Prisons and 1 from the Administration Police.
10. Kwae Island Development Ltd. - Wilson Airport
Five security officers provide security for 2 hangers and 5 helicopters owned by DP Ruto at the Wilson Airport.
The assets as listed by CS Matiang'i add to the others which have been associated with the deputy president.
DP Ruto has often been linked with the ownership of two Nairobi hotels, 680 and Boulevard.
The DP also owns a lavish home in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County.
