Ministry of Health Principal Secretary (PS) Susan Mochache has announced that seven people have been arrested over the sale of Covid-19 vaccines in the country.

Speaking on Thursday as she received 358,200 doses of Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccines from Canada, Mochache said a medical doctor was among seven arrested.

She noted that the seven will be arraigned in court and charged in accordance with the law.

"Together with other agencies of government, we are happy to report that at least seven people have been arrested... All these individuals that have been nabbed will face the full force of the law for their acts of both omission and commission," she said.

PS Mochache reiterated that all vaccines being issued in the country are free regardless of the facility issuing them.

She further noted that stiff action will be taken against individuals or facilities that contravene the vaccination protocol issued by the government.

Meanwhile, Kenya is on a vaccination drive and has been receiving vaccines from foreign donors and other agencies to aid in the immunisation push.

With the new 358,200 doses of Astrazeneca from Canada, Kenyan has now received over 3.6 million doses of vaccine.

According to the Ministry of Health, over the past 24 hours, 1,018 people tested positive for the coronavirus disease, from a sample size of 9,347 tested.

The positivity rate is now at 10.9% with total confirmed positive cases standing at 236,881 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,380,918.

Regarding vaccine intake, the Ministry noted that as of Wednesday, September 1, 2021, a total of 2,792,309 persons had been vaccinated with 1,985,905 receiving the first dose, while 806, 404 have received the second dose.
