Education CS George Magoha on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, announced a surge in the enrollment of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Kenya since 2013.
Addressing a section of members of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Colleges in Mombasa, CS Magoha stated that enrollment in Tvet institutions had increased from 55, 945 trainees in 2013 to 249,316 in 2021.
"TVET institutions are producing graduates who are trained and equipped with relevant skills for Kenya's manufacturing and industrial needs," the Education CS said.

In the 2020 KCSE, 6,617 students who attained C+ and above chose TVET programmes and were placed, up from 2,632 in 2019.

TVET institutions presented 308,339 slots for student placement. A total of 594,987 candidates of the 2020 examination were eligible for placement into Diploma, Certificate, Craft, and Artisan courses.
However, 137,072 applied for the available slots (44% of the capacity), and all of them were placed.

The placement to TVET was open to all, including those from previous years up to the year 2000.
According to CS Magoha, this years’ placement to TVET institutions represented a 54.5% increase from 2019, when 88,724 candidates were placed.
