Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has admitted that if elections are held today, she’d face an uphill ask defending her seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV Wednesday morning, Governor Waiguru noted that Jubilee Party as currently being run is not appealing and acceptable to Mount Kenya people.

She further noted that the party needs serious internal structural changes in order to boost its chances of being acceptable in the Mount region.

According to her, even though she has delivered for Kirinyaga people, she’d still face an uphill task defending her seat on a Jubilee ticket, owing to the party’s current damaged reputation in the region.

“The truth of the matter is that defending my seat if the polls were held today would be very difficult. Jubilee needs to look internally at its issues in order to be acceptable to the people of Mt Kenya.

“If I ran today on a Jubilee ticket and someone else ran on a different party, even if people felt I had performed, it would be hard to convince them to vote for me,” she said.

The governor called for a speedy resolution of the differences between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, arguing that such squabbles are not good for the country.

“To be in a position where the President and his DP are not working together is unfortunate…We need to figure out where we went wrong so we do not find ourselves in such a situation again as it affects all of us,” Waiguru opined.

As to whether she’ll ditch Jubilee party and use a different political vehicle in 2022, Governor Waiguru noted that she is currently engaging with the people, adding that her decision will be based on what the people want.
