Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has listed a set of conditions 2022 presidential aspirants must fulfill before receiving the support of the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking on Wednesday after meeting with grassroot women leaders from the county, Waiguru noted that any presidential aspirant seeking the region’s backing must show how Mount Kenya will benefit from their presidency.
She listed a number of conditions including the aspirants plan in regards to coffee and tea, uncompleted projects in the region and which jobs and Cabinet positions they intend to allocate Mount Kenya.
“It is important that we negotiate for the people of Mount Kenya. Whoever we are going to support for the presidential seat, we want to know where our people will get jobs, which jobs they will be? Which seats will get in Cabinet? We want to know all the benefits.
“Coffee, tea, what will happen to our markets? The roads that are being done and have not been completed, where is the signature so that we agree on how our people will be served? That is the only interest we have,” she said.

So far, several candidates have expressed interest in the presidency and have been courting Mount Keya region.
Some of the presidential aspirants who’ve been pitching camp in Mt Kenya include; Deputy President William Ruto and ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi among others.
Waiguru’s pronouncement comes a few hours after she appeared on an interview on Citizen TV where she called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy to mend their differences for the sake of the country.
“To be in a position where the President and his DP are not working together is unfortunate…We need to figure out where we went wrong so we do not find ourselves in such a situation again as it affects all of us,” Waiguru opined.
