A section of Mount Kenya leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto has released a statement urging President Uhuru Kenyatta to take decisive action over the violence in Laikipia.

In the statement read by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, the leaders urged the President to deploy the military to Laikipia to restore order.

“I am calling on our President who is also the Commander-in-Chief to deploy the Kenya Defence Forces in Laikipia to stop the senseless killings and displacement of the population… Let us deploy the military in Laikipia as early as tomorrow morning,” the statement read in part.

The UDA-allied leaders further noted that instead of sending troops to other countries like Somalia, those soldiers should be used to restore law and order back at home.

The leaders urged President Kenyatta to personally take lead on the issue and ensure those orchestrating the violence are flashed out.

“We ask our President to take personal charge of the situation to have the bandits flushed out, normalcy restored and those displaced assisted to rebuild their lives. It is purely nonsensical to send out troops to assist in Somalia when our people are being killed with impunity and Government officials admit our police are helpless,” the leaders opined.

They accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai of playing politics while Kenyans are being killed and displaced in Laikipia.

“We are bitter with the wanton killing of our people in Laikipia as the Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General of Police continue meddling with politics and have practically no time to address the crisis in Laikipia. We elected the President not Matiang'i and Mutyambai to protect life and property. It cannot be that people who voted for him to a man are being killed, as the people he has entrusted to manage the security of the Nation are busy politicking,” the leaders said.
