Mahali Mzuri, a tented camp located in Maasai Mara has been named the best hotel in the world in Travel + Leisure’s World's Best Awards.
The resort is owned by British Billionaire and Virgin Group Limited founder Richard Branson.
The top 100 hotels list is decided based on the results of Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards survey where it asks readers to share their travel experiences from around the world. Readers offer their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas and more. Hotels are rated on facilities, location, service, food and overall value.
"Our readers continue to be impressed and inspired by Sub-Saharan Africa, voting 13 properties in the region onto the list — including the first-ever No. 1 from Kenya," a statement from Travel + Leisure read in part.
" One respondent raved about the "excellent service," adding that "the hospitality provided at Mahali Mzuri resembles the name," which means beautiful place in Swahili. Another reader says simply that it's "the best luxurious camp to visit on the African continent."
Mahali Mzuri is located within the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy in the wider Maasai Mara ecosystem and consists of 12 sleeper tents named after the 12 Maasai tribes in the conservancy.
The resort boasts a 40-foot infinity pool and a spa. Patrons are treated to two daily wildlife-viewing drives into the bush, and safari walks.
The resort rests above an acacia-dotted valley, offering tourists a perfect view of the numerous and various animals in the surroundings.
A night at the establishment costs $590 per tent/night.
Mahali Mzuri offers more than just wildlife though, it’s the perfect place to retreat and relax. The team can cater for up to 24 guests in the camp at any one time, so tourists are guaranteed peace and quiet, as well as excellent customer service at all times.
