The University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) has called for mass demonstrations across all UoN campuses in the country to protest the increase in school fees and accommodation fees.
UNSA Secretary-General Nathan Kiplagat in a memo dated September 16, 2021, announced that the demonstrations will begin on September 20.
“There will be mass demonstrations in all University of Nairobi Campuses beginning from Monday 20th September 2021.

“Deliberations with the University of Nairobi administration on the increment of both school fees and accommodation fees have collapsed,” the statement read in part.
UNSA proceeded to warn first year parents intending to accompany students to school on that particular date.
“In that regard, all first-year parents and students who are to report to the University on that date (September 20) are advised not to report to the University,” the statement read.
This comes after the University hiked fees for some of the courses to cover for the deficit in cash left by the reduced enrollment.
Further reports indicate that UoN double the fees for some of the post-graduate courses and self-sponsored programmes.
According to the reports, fees for a masters degree in communication which runs for two years was raised from Ksh275,000 to over Ksh600,000.
Fees for degree courses like law, bachelor of commerce and economics under the self-sponsored program have been allegedly raised to about Ksh1 million.
