Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has dismissed handshake calls between the DP William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming that the current calls for a truce are part of a plan to trap the DP.

In a series of posts on his Facebook page, Senator Kindiki; a close ally of the DP read malice in the calls for reconciliation, arguing that it does not make sense for Ruto to have a handshake with the President, yet his administration has been “humiliating him”.

“Now they want to trap Deputy President William Ruto into a fake and self-serving reconciliation project after subjecting him to 4 long years of humiliation by his juniors in Government,” Kindiki posted.

According to Kindiki, those calling for a handshake between Ruto and the President are seeking a way of including the DP’s name in the failures of the Jubilee administration, now that elections are less than one year away.

“They chased the DP from Government; elevated and glorified his juniors; replaced competent leadership of both Houses of Parliament with some clueless folks; oversaw theft of public funds including money for alleviation of Covid; escalated Kenya’s Sovereign Debt to alarming heights, borrowing 3.2 B shillings daily during the last four years; abandoned the big 4 agenda...

“They killed the economy and hiked the prices of fuel and everything else… Now they have called for a truce so that we can all carry the illegitimacy of 5 wasted years and possibly help their surrogates with the “acceptable pedigree” win the next elections,” he opined.

Kindiki’s statement comes a few hours after DP Ruto noted that he is ready for a handshake with President Kenyatta.

Speaking at his Karen residence during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kandara constituency, on Thursday, the second in command said he is ready to make peace without any conditions.

“Yeye ni mdosi wangu, kuna watu wakora wamekuja hapo wakaweka fitina mpaka wakasema huyu deputy president uweke kando lakini mimi niko ready without condition any moment kwa sababu tulichaguliwa pamoja na wakenya na walitupatia majukumu ya kuendesha serikali ya Kenya,” said DP Ruto.

The DP’s remarks came a day after the leadership of the Catholic Church called for a truce between him and President Kenyatta.

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops in a statement said that the feud between the two leaders was threatening the country’s peace.
