2022 Presidential hopeful Jimi Wanjigi has condemned a violent attack on him and his team as they addressed a gathering in Migori town on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, Wanjigi was addressing a gathering in Migori before a section of rowdy youth started throwing stones at him, forcing him to cut short his speech and leave the town.

Addressing the media in Kisii after the incident, Wanjigi said the attack was unfortunate, adding that everyone must be allowed to share their opinions and ideology regardless of where they come from.

Wanjigi noted that he’ll not be intimidated by the attack, adding that he will proceed with his tour of the Nyanza region as scheduled.

“You may not like my message but you must defend my right to say it…I will not be cowed. We will be in Siaya County tomorrow (Saturday) and Kisumu on Sunday and later return to Migori. We will keep moving on. Democracy is for all of us and not for some of us,” he said.

According to Wanjigi, the violence was orchestrated by persons in ODM, adding that outsiders shouldn’t be blamed for the occurrence in Migori.

“Those who are trying to make it an external affair to ODM are not telling the truth. This is ODM, it is not external to ODM… There is no interference from outside of ODM in what happened today… ODM must champion the tenets of democracy, this country cannot take any more violence…This Kenya is for all of us, not for some of us,” he opined.

Meanwhile, ODM has condemned the attack on Wanjigi and urged its supporters across the country to accommodate all politicians despite their ideological and political standpoints.

The party also called upon the police to investigate the matter and apprehend perpetrators of the violence.

“We have learnt of unfortunate incidents of Violence in Migori involving Mr. Jimmy Wanjigi. The Party takes this early opportunity to condemn the incidents and urge for tolerance & accommodation of every political view. We urge Police in Migori to ensure culprits are brought to book,” ODM said.

Weighing in on the matter, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna noted that he’s requested for a detail brief from the Migori office regarding the violence against Wanjigi.

“My office is in contact with the @TheODMparty office in Migori for a full brief on reported cases of violence targeted at one of our members Mr. Jimmy Wanjigi. I have also tried to reach Mr. Wanjigi on phone to confirm he is OK. Full brief to follow,” Sifuna said.
