The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has extended free registration for its ordinary membership for another three months.

The party had initially given a waiver for ordinary member registration for a period of three months and was set to end on Thursday, September 30th, 2021.

In a statement by the party's Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the free registration period has shown the desire by Kenyans to join the Orange party, and therefore warranting the extension.

"Given the success we have witnessed and the desire from the public to join the party in the last three months, we resolved to extend the free membership registration for ordinary members that was expected to expire the 30th of September to the 31st of December 2021," said Sifuna.

This came shortly after the Orange party's Central Committee Chaired by Party Leader Raila Odinga met to discuss various other issues affecting the ODM party.

On June 30th, 2021, Sifuna called on those wishing to join ODM to take advantage of the three-month window running from July to September, as they would not be required to pay anything.

Sifuna said the prevailing economic conditions brought by Covid-19 pandemic were part of the reasons for the scrapping of the fees.

“In light of this, the Party Leader Raila Odinga has directed my office to waive the membership fee for anyone wishing to join our party in the next three months beginning July 1, 2021,” stated Sifuna.
