"Peoples jobs & economy need to be preserved, Police have used curfew enforcement for brutality & extortion, Compliance has waned - tactical time-bound curfews are more likely to be enforceable and Finally the pandemic phase demands so," he states.

Mr Gitahi emphasizes the need to shift attention to vaccinating the population faster.

"Governments should ensure adequate oxygen, (Kenya’s oxygen capacity has gone up 3-fold!!), health workers, financing as well as large scale timely vaccination & robust epidemiological data to decide when short term #curfews are needed as circuit breakers," the Amref CEO says.
