Lawyer Evans Monari passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.

The news of his untimely demise was relayed by his brother Ken, who is fundraising on social media, to settle a huge medical bill that's been left behind.

"It is with profound sadness that I would like to inform on behalf of the Ogeto family that Evans has gone to be with the Lord. May the almighty God rest his soul in peace. Thank you for your continued support," Ken Monari said.

Monari had been in and out of hospital following an illness. Up until his passing on, the lawyer spent four weeks at the Nairobi Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

His family and friends have been trying to raise Ksh16 million that is owed to the hospital as medical bill.

Monari was a partner in Bowmans' Law Firm Nairobi office dispute resolution department.

Law firm, Lehmann Associates, who have been part of the team raising funds to clear Monari's medical bill, on Friday, October 1, revealed that though the lawyer had an insurance cover, the insurance company has since refused to settle the bill.

"Our colleague Senior Evans Monari has been unwell and hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Nairobi for the past 4 weeks.

"The medical bill as at today stands at Ksh16 million and it continues to grow. Whereas Evans has an insurance cover that would handle the bill, the Insurance Company has refused to settle the bill," the law firm said.

He was among the lawyers that represented President Uhuru Kenyatta at the International Criminal Court (ICC) where he faced charges of crime against humanity in relation to the 2007-2008 post-election violence.

Monari also represented former Police Commissioner Hussein Ali and former Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura at the ICC.

He specialised in commercial litigation, civil litigation, public law, aviation law, criminal and constitutional law and election petitions.
