Former Chief Justice David Maraga has criticized aspirants interested in the country’s Presidency in 2022, stating that none of them has come out to clearly address the pertinent issues facing the country.
Speaking during the official opening of 15th Science Conference for Orthopedic Doctors in Mombasa on Thursday, Maraga termed disregard to rule of law and corruption as Kenya’s two main challenges.
According to him, while there are good ideas being shared by some of the aspirants, none is tackling issues around how to effectively curb corruption and fight disregard of the law by the government.
He argued that if the country can be able to resolve corruption and disregard for rule of law, then many other minor challenges will also be fixed as a result of curbing the two.
“If you expect anything to come out of them (presidential aspirants) it is a miracle. You are going to expect a miracle to come from them.

“In my view, none of these presidential aspirants has come out to address major issues facing this country… In my view, we have two major problems; disregard for rule of law and curbing corruption. If we solve them, we will resolve quite a number of problems we have in this country,” he said.
His statement comes at a time when different presidential aspirants are trying to craft their strategies and assemble a team ahead of next year’s general election.
So far, those who’ve expressed interest in the presidential seat include; DP William Ruto, Speaker Justin Muturi, OKA Principals; Gideon Moi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Senator Moses Wetangula, Musician Reuben Kigame and Businessman Jimi Wanjigi among others.
