Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has called for the resignation of Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, over the escape of self-confessed serial killer Masten Wanjala from police custody.

Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Citizen TV, Khalwale noted that IG Mutyambai should resign before 1300 hours today, arguing that there is no way for a suspect to leave a police station without being aided.

According to Khalwale, the police must have been involved in some shoddy deal to aid the escape of the suspect.

“We must insist that the Inspector General Mr Mutyambai should resign before 1pm today, because how can a serial murderer who murdered 13 children, at a police station properly manned by police officers, just walk out of a police station; no window or door broken.

“As a person who has been severally arrested and locked up in police cells I know that you cannot run away from a police station, you have to be aided to come out, in fact there is a regular roll call… How did this man run away?...His relatives must have paid for it and aided him to leave,” he said.

Coincidentally, his escape came hours before his scheduled appearance in court where he was expected to answer to multiple murder charges.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that three officers from Jogoo police station have been arrested over Wanjala’s escape, even as a manhunt has been launched for him.
