Bungara who was an MP for Kilwa South contested using the Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT Wazalendo) party but lost to lost to Ally Kasinge of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM). 

Popular Tanzanian Member of Parliament Selemani Bungara, who is famed for his ‘Uliskia wapi’ phrase has lost his re-election bid in the just concluded general election.

Bungara who was an MP for Kilwa South contested using the Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT Wazalendo) party but lost to lost to Ally Kasinge of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

Kasinge was declared the winner after garnering 22,521 against Bungara’s 10,096 votes.

Bungara was seeking re-election for the third time. He has been the MP for Kilwa South since 2005.

The MP became an internet sensation a few weeks ago thanks to his ‘Uliskia wapi’ phrase which was re-engineered by Kenyans netizens to ‘Ooliskia Wapi’.


The phrase went across social media platforms with Kenyans also using it on merchandises.

Mwana FA Wins, Professor Jay Out

In the Tanzanian polls, veteran artist Hamis Mwinjuma also known as Mwana FA has been elected as the new Muheza Member of Parliament. He was contesting on the CCM party.

Elsewhere, Veteran musician cum politician Joseph Haule also known as Prof Jay has lost his parliamentary seat to CCM contestant Dennis Lazaro. Lazaro got 31,411 votes while Professor Jay got 17,375 votes.

The Presidential result ie yet to be announced with reports indicating that President John Magufuli has taken a commanding lead.

The polls have been marred by claims of irregularities with the opposition lead by CHADEMA presidential candidate Tindu Lissu vowing to reject the outcome of the poll.
