  • According to DP Ruto, Odinga’s socio-economic empowerment model has borrowed heavily from the bottom-up economics being pushed by the Hustler Nation.

Deputy President William Ruto has accused ODM Leader Raila Odinga of copying his campaign ideas.

Speaking on Friday during his ongoing tour of the Coastal Kenya region, the DP noted that he was heavily criticized when he introduced bottom-up economic model, but now it is the subject of debate in the country.

While making reference to Odinga’s socio-economic empowerment model, the DP claimed that the former Prime Minister’s model has borrowed heavily from the bottom-up economics being pushed by the Hustler Nation.

“They used to criticise my bottom-up approach, but they’ve now shifted the narrative. We have made them realise the need to economically empower citizens instead of seeking positions for their gains,” Ruto said as quoted by Nation.

Reacting to Odinga’s announcement that he’ll pay all unemployed Kenyans a monthly stipend of Ksh6,000, the DP accused the ODM Leader of using “tokenism” as a way of campaigning for the top seat.

According to the DP, Ksh6,000 in a month amounts to Ksh.200 a day which is way less than Jua Kali workers are paid in a day.

He urged Coastal residents to rally behind him, arguing that he will endeavor to ensure youth are employed and empowered economically as opposed to “receiving handouts”.

“Hwa mahustler hawataki handouts. Usiwaambieati utawapatia shilingi mia mbili, ata Yule anafanya kwa mjengo halipwi mia mbili, analipwa mia tano, so wewe achana na handout, hawa vijana wanataka ajira,” DP Ruto said.
