Police have arrested a third suspect over the controversial murder of Kenyan Olympian Agnes Tirop.

The suspect whose identity is yet to be revealed is believed to have crucial information that can aid with the investigations.

Already, two suspects; the late Tirop’s husband Ibrahim Rotich and his friend John Kipkoech Samoei have been arrested over the murder incident.

“There was an unidentified woman who was spotted at the slain athlete’s home a day before her body was discovered. Detectives have had statements from multiple witnesses including friends of the two, which have aided our investigation. Positively identifying the woman won't be an issue," Keiyo North sub-County Police Commander Tom Makori said as quoted by Nation.

The police boss, however, declined to reveal whether the third suspect was the woman in question.

According to Makori, the police intend to interrogate the suspect with an aim of getting more information on what happened prior to the athlete’s death.

“Now that more people including the prime suspect have been arrested, they will assist in exposing images on the CCTV cameras and facilitate conclusive investigations,” he added.

As the investigations are ongoing, the family is working on laying the late Tirop to rest on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in Nandi County.

Tirop was found dead on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to reports, the athlete was found with stab wounds in her abdomen.

She was part of the 5000 meters Kenya women's team at the Tokyo Olympics, where she came in fourth at the finals.
