Mombasa Road Traffic: KeNHA Explains Cause of Huge Snarl Up

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a statement explaining the cause of the massive traffic along Mombasa Road.

For the better part of Monday morning, motorists using Mombasa Road were stuck on traffic, with most taking to social media to air their grievances.

Some motorists noted that they had spent up to three hours on the road, thus jeopardizing their plans.

“Mombasa Road in bound is an absolute parking lot! Do carry packed lunch....Lunch time may find you on the road,” one user tweeted.

“Mombasa road... Mombasa road... Mombasa road... when will we have peace oooohhhh?” Citizen TV journalist Mashirima Kapombe tweeted.

“Poor planning on Mombasa Road will be the end of us yayeeeee… 3hrs on the road on a Monday morning,” another users tweeted.

In response, KeNHA released a statement noting that the huge snarl up is as a result of a crane that broke down at the site while working on sections of the road.

The agency apologized for the delays caused and urged Mombasa Road users to bear with it as it works to clear the mess and resume normal traffic flow.

“KeNHA wishes to advise motorists of a traffic snarl up from GM area which has caused congestion of traffic flow for traffic plying towards Imara Daima and its environs. A temporary breakdown of a crane that was earlier at the site caused traffic build up. Work is, however, underway by the project implementation team to clear the site and resume normal traffic flow. KeNHA apologized for any inconveniences caused,”KeNHA said.

Meanwhile, sections of Mombasa Road that have been undergoing construction are set to be opened for use by the public later this month.

The opening of the sections is expected to ease traffic along the major highway.
