The court has allowed police twenty days to detain Ibrahim Rotich as probe into the murder of his lover athletics champion Agnes Tirop continues.

Tirop was found dead on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County with stab wounds.

On Sunday, police arrested a third suspect over the murder of the Kenyan Olympian. 

The suspect whose identity is yet to be revealed is believed to have crucial information that can aid with the investigations. 

Police had already arrested Rotich's friend John Kipkoech Samoei in connection with the murder.

According to DCI, Mr. Rotich, the husband of Tirop was last week arrested in Mombasa trying to flee the country. 

"The prime suspect in the gruesome murder of 25-year-old world 5,000m record holder Agnes Tirop, has been arrested. Ibrahim Rotich, who was in a relationship with the athlete was arrested moments ago in Changamwe, Mombasa county, as he tried to flee to a neighboring country to evade justice.

"Rotich is believed to have killed the two-time World Athletics championships bronze medallist, by stabbing her before going into hiding," DCI said.
