The family of late Kenyan Olympian Agnes Tirop has claimed that her death could have been planned as she was representing the country at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo early this year.

According to the family spokesperson Jeremiah Sawe, the ownership of a huge chunk of Tirop’s properties was allegedly transferred to her husband Ibrahim Rotich; who’s currently the main suspect in the murder.

Sawe alleged that the transfer happened as Tirop was at the Tokyo Olympics, further claiming that this could have been part of a plan to eliminate her.

The family believes that the transfer of ownership was done without Tirop’s knowledge, adding that a total of twelve plots of land, and one of the deceased’s vehicles are part of the properties that have changed ownership.

“We have learnt with utter shock that majority of our daughter’s property has mysteriously changed hands. What is shocking is that the property changed hands three months ago and some have been disposed of by her lover, who is also the prime suspect in the murder. We are now convinced she was killed because of her wealth,” Sawe said as quoted by Nation.

The family has vowed to file a petition in court with an aim of recovering Tirop’s properties that have allegedly been transferred to the suspect.

“…We have engaged lawyers to pursue the recovery of the assets and we expect caveats on already sold plots and vehicles. This was her property obtained through sweat and blood and the best way to honour her is to have her properties back,” said Mr Sawe.

Meanwhile, police have vowed to thoroughly investigate the case, adding that currently, the focus is on murder, but more charges will be preferred against the suspects depending on the evidence gathered.

On Tuesday, an autopsy conducted on the body of athlete Agnes Tirop revealed that she died of stab wounds to the neck and blunt force injury inflicted on the head.

The postmortem was carried out at the Iten County Referral Hospital, led by Dr. Dorothy Njeru.

Tirop was found dead on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

So far, three suspects have been arrested in connection the murder.
