  • Many have been wondering why the COTU boss has not joined elective politics despite being influential and enjoying a huge following across the country.

Renowned Kenyan trade unionist Francis Atwoli has opened up on why he’s not expressed interest in any political seat in the upcoming election, despite being influential and having a deep understanding of Kenya’s political scene.

Speaking during an interview on JK Live on Wednesday night, Atwoli noted that he has not ventured into elective politics because he is a bad loser.

According to Atwoli, losing affects him really bad, therefore, he prefers staying in his comfort zone, rather than trying his luck in politics and ending up failing.

“I have not presented myself for any political seat because I fear being defeated, the fear failure. I am a bad loser, I don’t like losing… If I did lose I can’t eat, so I better stay in the corner where I am safe,” he said.

Addressing the 2022 presidential race, Atwoli noted that it is a two horse race between DP William Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga.

According to him, if elections were held today, Raila would emerge victorious with over 50% of the vote, meaning there wouldn’t be a runoff.

“…The man got into politics at the age of fourteen which means he is seasoned and adept when it comes to political matters. He is a very good strategist and the only way you can stop him is by employing an excellent contingency plan.

“I am saying this as a person and not as the COTU boss, but if the elections were done today Raila will emerge victorious in the first round. He is the man to watch next year,” Atwoli said.

Explaining why he believes Ruto will not be President in 2022, Atwoli said the DP has been consistently criticizing the regime which he is part of, adding that this criticism will ruin his chances of winning in 2022.
