Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced the revised time for closure of bars and restaurants to 11.00pm.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the CS clarified on the contradicting communications that had been issued by the Ministry of Tourism and the Inspector General of Police on the same.

"With the removal we are reverting to closure of bars and restaurants at 11.00pm or the time allowed by licensing authorities," said CS Kagwe.

He added that other protocols including social distancing, sanitising, washing of hand will remain in place.

On Wednesday, after the curfew was lifted by President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Wang'uru stadium in Kirinyaga County, police issued a statement saying that the earlier containment measures on the closure of bars remained in effect.

"Following the vacation of the COVID associated curfew by H.E the President during MASHUJAA Day speech, existing measures on the closure of bars by 7.00 pm remain in place for now.

"enforcement of violation of this measure to continue," police said in a statement.

The statement had contradicted Tourism and Wildlife CS Najib Balala's earlier statement saying that with the lifting of the nationwide curfew, operations in the hospitality industry were back to normal.

“All hospitality facilities are back to normal with Ministry of Health protocols,” Balala said.
