Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi's mother, Florence Mwangangi, tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
Mrs Mwangangi who is also the Machakos County Assembly Speaker has been in self-quarantine.
She revealed that she tested positive roughly nine days ago when the Assembly carried out tests on members and staff.
The Speaker said that she had noticed Covid-19-like symptoms on one of the members and decided to call for a test on the rest of the members.

"This is the ninth day since I contracted the disease and I can’t trace where I got it from despite being very careful," she said.
"I saw one of my colleagues with symptoms of corona and [we decided to] get tested,” Speaker Mwangangi added.
Speaking on her experience, Speaker Mwangangi said that each day is different as one may face different symptoms.

She further urged those who are sick to take heart and be hopeful as the journey to recovery is tough.
Yesterday Kenya recorded 1,395 more Covid-19 positive cases bringing the country's total caseload rises to 55,192.
A statement from Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 15 more people have succumbed to coronavirus in Kenya.
