  • The ODM politician died at Narok. He had been admitted at Kisii Oasis Hospital since Thursday.

A staunch politician elected on the Orange Democratic Movement has died in Narok while on his way to Nairobi for treatment.

The country assembly legislator serving his second term at the Kisii County Assembly died on Sunday afternoon while being taken to a Nairobi hospital for specialized treatment.

Kiamokama ward MCA Ken Mainya was first elected in 2013 and retained his seat in 2017 on an ODM ticket.

Kisii County Assembly Majority Leader Timothy Ogugu confirmed the passing on of the MCA saying he had been admitted at Oasis Specialist Hospital in Kisii on Thursday.

On Sunday morning, medics at the facility asked the family to organize for his treatment in Nairobi.

Kisii County Assembly Deputy Speaker Davins Onuso described the late Mainya as a dedicated servant of the people and an active legislator who also served in the speaker's panel.

"I have lost a friend a colleague and one of the Hon. Members in the speaker's panel! Mainya was an honest leader who stood for what he believed was right. He was among the leaders who relentlessly advocated for the development of his ward with the most recent statement in the house of the state of roads in his wards.

"I shall miss him. My condolences to the family; Kiamokama ward and Kisii county assembly," condoled Onuso.
