According to Mutua the former Eldoret North Member of Parliament should just forget about winning the presidency and focus on the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

United States-based lawyer Makau Mutua has opined Deputy President William Ruto to drop his presidential bid and vie for Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

Mutua urged Ruto not to waste his resources campaigning for a political seat he is going to lose.

According to Mutua, the former Eldoret North Member of Parliament should just forget about winning the presidency and focus on the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

“Instead of running all over the country for an election he’s going to lose, why can’t William Ruto go for Governor of Nairobi, he might just win it,” Mutua said.

The lawyer’s s Mutua’s remarks come barely days after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria predicted a landslide win for Raila Odinga against his perceived closest competitor, William Ruto.

A projection by Kuria shows that ODM chief Raila Odinga would beat DP Ruto hands down in a two-horse race.

Kuria, once an insider in Ruto's camp, said without ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka on the ballot, Raila would win the presidential race by 52.28 per cent.

However, while speaking in Kajiado County on Sunday, the deputy president oozed confidence that he will succeed his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta and asked the government to provide a fairground for every candidate ahead of the 2022 general elections.

“The contest must be free of blackmail, threats, and intimidation. Fear is a sin. We cannot buy it. Kenyans will only buy issues,” Ruto said.

Ruto has continuously asserted that the race will be between the Hustler Nation and the 'project of the System'.
