Responding to the order, IEBC officials stated that they could not extend the exercise since there was no budget.

IEBC Vice Chair Juliana Cherera said that their lawyers had already gone to court since the mass voter registration exercise couldn't be extended.

"The youths that are registering need to be paid, they are not volunteering,” Cherera said.

The country has witnessed low voter registration turnout since the exercise began a month ago.

Despite the mass voter registration exercise going on for a month, the electoral body has only managed to approximately register 1 Million voters out of a target of 6.5 million.
