As the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta heats up, many people have weighed in on the suitability of Raila Odinga for the top job, including leading constitutional lawyer PLO Lumumba.

Lumumba joined the list of a number of individuals calling for ODM leader Raila Odinga to shelve his statehouse ambitions.

"Mzee Raila Odinga, I once again beseech you, don't seek the Presidency in Kenya. Think like MAHATMA GANDHI and MARTIN LUTHER KING Jnr. Don't listen to your usual advisors. Africa is bigger," wrote PLO Lumumba.

"Think like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Junior. Don't listen to your usual advisors. Africa is bigger", added Lumumba.

The AU special envoy has tried seeking presidency a number of times including 1997, 2007, 2013, and in 2017 which he termed as his final shot referring to it as 'last bullet'.

Speaking at a funeral in Mabole village, Butere constituency,  the ODM leader dismissed those urging him to retire from active politics, insisting that he has the responsibility to midwife Kenya’s ‘third liberation’.

“Do you want me to retire? Do you want me to retire? Okay, I am still strong and ready to lead the third liberation which we have begun,” Raila told mourners during the funeral service of John Luchera, a cousin of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Ruto and his team have been opposing Raila on using the BBI report to position himself for the presidency in 2022.

DP Ruto has been touring parts of this country with his brigade saying that the ODM leader has been using the BBI report to revive his political career.
