New details from the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surrounding Agnes Tirop's death have emerged, placing Emmanuel Ibrahim Rotich at the crime scene in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The Olympian was found dead on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to Keiyo North sub-county DCIO Andolo Munga, based on the footage,  Tirop was killed on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

Mr. Munga mentioned that the CCTV footage detailed exactly what transpired on the eve Tirop was murdered.

“The CCTV footage is self-explanatory and positive after forensic analysis. It has all the evidence of the scene and the actual act," Mr. Munga said.

An autopsy confirmed that Tirop died of stab wounds and blunt force injury on her head.

The prime suspect and the deceased's husband Rotich allegedly tried to flee when he was intercepted at Changamwe in Mombasa by the authorities.

At the time of arrest, police reports indicated that he had called his parents seeking forgiveness for something bad he had done.

Detectives then retrieved a confession note reportedly authored by Rotich before he fled the murder scene.

The athlete's family remarked that the deceased and the suspect had a strained relationship, which the confession letter echoed.

"Not once, but on several occasions, my sister was savagely beaten. Even on the day, she returned from the Olympic games, she did not sleep but was wailing that night.

"The entire night because of the beatings. In the morning her face was swollen and bruised," Tirop's sister narrated.
