The Karen Residents Association has penned a hard-hitting complain letter to Deputy President William Ruto over huge regular delegations hosted at his official residence in the estate.

In the letter signed by James Hirst, the association’s Chair and Secretary, the residents complained of traffic gridlock around the DP’s residence thanks to the reduce delegations visiting his home on a regular basis.

The residents also complained of increased cases of crime, arguing that persons pretending to be guests of the DP have been torturing residents.

“We have received complaints of insecurity, noise and traffic gridlock attributed to entourages entering your official residence. Residents have complained of rising cases of mugging along the route conducted by aliens masquerading as visitors to your residence.

“The association is highly alarmed by the ever presence of suspicious persons roaming around the area against its rules on loitering. We wish to notify you of rampant traffic gridlock as a result of visitors parking on the roadsides and wayleaves awaiting clearance to your residence,” the association’s letter read in part.

According to the association, the increased traffic, noise pollution and cases of crime have great inconvenienced its residents. The residents want the DP’s office to look into their complaints and promptly resolve the issues raised.

“This has caused unbearable inconvenience to residents commuting along the Karen road and adjoining lanes. We therefore request your office to speedily and conclusively look into the above matters, safeguard and restore peace and tranquility in our neighbourhood.”

Karen is one of the most prestigious estates in the city and hosts influential and respected persons in the country including; ODM leader Raila Odinga, former Attorney General Githu Muigai and former Chief Justice David Maraga among others.
