The US State Department has announced that the country’s Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to three African countries next week.

According to the statement, Secretary Blinken will be in Nairobi on Monday where he will meet President Uhuru Kenyatta and top government officials including Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo.

The State Department further noted that the discussion between President Kenyatta and Secretary Blinken will focus on regional security, clean energy, coronavirus pandemic and matters around protection of the environment.

Blinken’s physical meeting comes six months after he conducted a virtual tour in Kenya and held a virtual meeting with President Kenyatta.

During their virtual meeting, President Kenyatta and Blinken deliberated on trade and investment opportunities between the two countries in light of the Kenya-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Accompanied CS Omamo and Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua, the Head of State highlighted possible areas of partnership between Kenya and the United States in various sectors like; health, climate, security, human rights and the issue of refugees.

President Kenyatta committed to strengthening Kenya’s relationship with the United States and applauded US President Joe Biden for his commitment on the issue of climate change.
