A city businessman has moved to court challenging the use of bottom-up economic model as a campaign slogan by Deputy President William Ruto and his Hustler Nation brigade.

In his application, Jacob Kioko argues that the bottom-up economic model was crafted by his Dichotomus Universal Growth Web Innovation (DUGWI) group, therefore he holds the exclusive right to it.

He further noted that politicians using the model are doing so without having a deep understanding of what it really means.

Kioko wants the court to stop the DP’s team and any other politicians from using the phrase ‘bottom-up’, arguing that it is an infringement of his rights.

"Making the bottom up economic concept a political slogan is a deliberate move by the concerned parties to counter and water down DUGWIs noble effort to grow the national economy through the development of the capacity to raise investment capital from local resources.

"The foregoing potential of economic growth will be completely lost in its entirety if the misuse of the bottom up economic theory will not be halted immediately," Kioko’s court papers were quoted by a local daily.

DP Ruto and his team have been using the bottom-up economic model as a key campaign strategy for Hustler Nation ahead of 2022.

According to the DP’s team, bottom-up is about empowering every Kenyan starting from those at the bottom of the pyramid heading up.

A few months ago, there was a massive debate in the country over the bottom-up model, with different political players giving their take on the same.

Opponents of the DP argued that the model is unrealistic, adding that it is being used to hoodwink voters. However, the DP has maintained the bottom-up model is the best way to go for the country.
