Kenya Railways Corporation responded to passengers stuck midway from Mombasa to Nairobi on an inter-county train.

Kenya Railways Corporation has issued an update after one of their Inter-county trains from Mombasa to Nairobi stalled.

In the statement issued via Twitter on November 18, Kenya Railways said that the train developed mechanical problems on the way and another one had been dispatched to pick the stranded passengers.

"The Inter-county train from Mombasa to Nairobi has developed a mechanical problem resulting in an undue delay. We have dispatched a rescue Locomotive to enable the passengers to complete the journey. The expected arrival time is 4:20 pm.

"The 3:00 pm Express train to Mombasa will now depart at 5:00 pm. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused," the statement read in part.

Following the announcement by SGR, Kenyans expressed concerns about whether it would affect their bookings.

In March 2021, an SGR train stopped mid-journey after a suspicious bag was found abandoned on the railway line.

Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata said the train had to be stopped for one hour at Miasenyi before proceeding with the journey.

"We wanted to establish the contents of the bag that had been dropped at the foot of the railway bridge at Miasenyi," stated Elungata told the press.

According to Kenya Railways, SGR trains have been fully booked ahead of the Christmas season.

"The trains are fully booked up to December 24. We have seen a change in trend where passengers are booking for their tickets earlier," they said in a statement.
