According to eyewitnesses, the four suspected robbers entered the bank disguised as customers only to unleash teargas in a twinkle of an eye forcing clients to flee.

Members of the public alerted the police who swung into action leading to the heavy shootout.

After hours of operations led by Kisumu OCPD Karanja Muiruri, police managed to contain the situation but the four robbers are yet to be arrested.

The bank area remains cordoned off as detectives comb through pieces of information and materials that will guide them in handling the matter going forward.

A fire engine has been deployed at the bank to neutralize the effect of tear gas.

The four robbers had not managed to steal money from the bank by the time they were cornered.

Earlier on, businessmen and passersby scampered for safety as they abandoned the street where the Equity Bank branch is located.

This is not the first time that an Equity Bank branch has been on the receiving of robbery cases.

In July 2021, a daring gang of three attacked and robbed the bank's outlet in Matuu where they managed to walk away with an unknown amount of money.

Those behind the robbery have not been apprehended to date.
