Nairobi Metropolitan Services(NMS) has disclosed that the public will access Uhuru Park in February 2022 after renovations have been completed. 

According to NMS head of communications, Tony Mbarine the park had been outdated for too long and needed a facelift. 

"A lot of things were not working, and we are just doing what should have been done a long time ago. By February 2022, they will be open as very beautiful parks," Mbarine stated. 

Uhuru Park was closed after the Nairobi County assembly approved the decision to hand the park a facelift.

A motion tabled in the assembly to temporarily close the park was supported by Majority leader Abdi Guyo and Minority leader Micheal Ogada. 

“We will give them the three months to renovate the place but they should not fence off the place and then disappear,” Ogada said. 

A section of Kenyans had expressed concerns that the Uhuru Park land had been leased to a private investor.
