Kenya has received an additional 1,462,400 Covid-19 vaccine doses to combat the pandemic.

In a statement on December 1, 2021, the Ministry of Health revealed that with the new consignment, the country has received a total of 14,120,000 vaccine doses.

"Kenya has received an additional 1,462,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in yet another boost for the ongoing accelerated Covid-19 vaccination drive.

"The latest consignment brought the number of doses received in the country to 14,120,000," MoH said.

The vaccine doses arrived at a time when members of the public have been urged to take the jab in a bid to curb the further spread of the virus.

While delivering his State of the Nation speech on November 30, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged Kenyans to show up in huge numbers and get vaccinated.

"This new variant's profile, for now, remains unknown. It is, therefore, better to err on the side of caution. By receiving our vaccinations, we will have played our part in securing not only our own lives but also protecting the lives of those around us. let us be responsible in this endeavour," he said.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe also called for a crisis meeting to discuss contingency measures ahead of the festive holidays.

The meeting will be attended by members of the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC) on Tuesday next week.

Speaking to a local daily, Kagwe stated that the meeting is intended to deliberate on ways to prevent the further spread of the virus as Kenyans prepare for the holidays.

He, however, failed to mention whether the government would impose any restrictions to that effect.
