Former Nairobi County Secretary and Head of County Public Service Board Dr Robert Ayisi has died of Covid-19 family members confirmed.

Reports indicate that Dr Ayisi died on Wednesday night at around 23:55pm.

He was admitted to Mater Hospital in Nairobi where he was battling the virus that has so far claimed 1,051 lives in the country.

Earlier this week, there were rumours that Ayisi has succumbed but his family disputed the news which saw Governor Mike Sonko suspend two employees.

Governor Sonko had to retract the condolence message he posted on social media and apologise.

Dr Ayisi was appointed as the County Secretary of the Nairobi County Government in January 2016 by Governor Evans Kidero.

During his tenure, Dr Ayisi oversaw the launch of an early voluntary retirement scheme for low-cadre employees in Nairobi County to streamline its bloated workforce.
