A police officer attached to Kabete Police Station on Tuesday morning, December 7, 2021, shot dead six people before turning the gun on himself.

The officer opened fire indiscriminately at the Kabete area. He then proceeded to his wife's shop and asked her to close down, and they went home together.

The officer is said to have also shot and killed her when they got to their home at J Apartments near N Market, before heading to his car where he turned the gun on himself.

Confirming the incident, DCI in a statement said, "Six people have been confirmed dead and two others are in critical condition after a police officer went on a killing spree early this morning in Kabete, Kiambu county. Police Constable Benson Imbasi, who later committed suicide by turning the gun on himself, had first killed."

A police officer privy to the matter said that the bodies of the seven people have been moved to the morgue.

"He inflicted injuries on the wife's neck before he went to his car, put the cock of the gun before his chin, and fired," the officer was quoted as saying.

It was, however, unclear at the time of publishing as to why the officer committed the act.
