Baringo Senator and KANU chairman Gideon Moi is mourning the death of his mother-in-law.

Mama Afia Juma, the mother of his wife Zahra Moi, passed away on Thursday morning, December 9.

The Senator described her as humble and whose strictness shaped the character of her generation.

The KANU chairman called on Kenyans of goodwill to remember the family in prayers even as they mourn their matriarch.

"I am deeply saddened this morning by the passing on of Mama Afia Juma - the mother to my beloved wife Zahra Moi. A soft-spoken mother-in-law, Mama Afia Juma was a humble, deeply introspective yet very strict matriarch.

"Her death is a devastating blow to us as a family. May Allah grant us sufficient grace during this difficult time to come to terms with this loss," the Senator said in a statement.

KANU Chairman Nick Salat also shared the party's condolences message to the family saying the loss is indeed devastating.

"The passing away early today of Mama Afia Juma, the mother to Zahra Moi who is the wife of our National Chairman, is indeed devastating. 

"As a party, we convey our heartfelt condolences and assure them that they are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May Allah grant Zahra Moi and the entire family the fortitude to bear the loss," he said.
