Winnie Odinga has responded to allegations by Deputy President William Ruto that her father, ODM Leader Raila Odinga is a stingy man.
While addressing religious leaders at his Karen residence on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the DP referred to the former premier as a selfish man who only cares about himself.
In a statement on Wednesday, December 15, Winnie dismissed allegations peddled by DP Ruto that her father has often failed to help those in need at their lowest.
The DP accused Odinga of neglecting churches in his campaigns.
"Our friend who we are competing with never attends fundraisers for churches, schools and women groups. Even an offering in the church itself is a problem," the DP stated.
In defence of her father, Winnie stated that the DP's donations are just a PR stunt to lure supporters to his camp.
She added that her father is not a selfish man, rather, he gives from the heart and doesn't no like showing off.
"Not all donations are PR stunts. Give with your heart or not at all. The world doesn’t have to know," she said.
Winnie also noted that the handshake between the former premier and President Kenyatta was out of a genuine heart and for the benefit of all Kenyans.
DP Ruto is known for his generous donations and is probably the most sought after Harambee guest in the country.
He has continued to donate to churches, boda boda operators, youth and women groups across the country.
Often, the second in command has come under criticism for the source of his donations. He has been accused by opposing leaders of swindling public funds and then donating to Kenyans.
DP Ruto has often explained the source of his wealth and stated that he is a cheerful giver and not ashamed of lending a hand to support members of the public.
