  • This is not to say that other professions are not represented in parliament; you will find businessmen, doctors, teachers, journalists among others in parliament.

Politics and law go hand in hand in hand and this is the reason most lawyers find themselves seeking elective posts. Most of the work elected leaders do in the National Assembly and Senate is to pass and amend laws, to better serve the interests of the electorate.

They are in parliament to represent the interests of the people who elected them into the august house.

This is also why you will always find most elected leaders having professional backgrounds in law and political science. This is not to say that other professions are not represented in parliament; you will find businessmen, doctors, teachers, journalists among others in parliament.

Today’s order of business however, is to list some of the vocal city lawyers who have thrown their hats into the rings of active and elective politics and seek to be in parliament as either Senators or the National Assembly as MPs.

This is after Wanyonyi announced that he will be seeking the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat.

Nelson Havi is seeking the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket which he will use to vie for seat.

Cliff Ombeta

Cliff Ombeta is another who has thrown his weight into the field of politics and is seeking the Bonchari MP seat in 2022.

Ombeta who is on the UDA side is expected to face off with other interested candidates for the party ticket ahead of the polls.

He will also have to face stiff competition from incumbent Pavel Oimeke and veteran politicians like Zebedeo Opore who has represented the area for over 15 years.

Edwin Sifuna

The ODM secretary general has made it clear that he will be vying for the Nairobi senate seat. This will be the second time he will be taking a shot at the position currently held by Johnson Sakaja, who has his eyes on the gubernatorial seat.

Sifuna despite being the party’s SG will have to face other candidates interested in the position at the party primaries.

Prof. Tom Ojienda

You cannot talk about the circles of law in Nairobi and not mention Tom Ojienda.

He is seeking to be the next Kisumu County senator on an ODM ticket and hopes to succeed Fred Outa who has his eyes set on the county’s gubernatorial position.

Ojienda will have to face some of his challengers at the party nominations.
