The man was first arrested over the murder of Nakuru-based businesswoman Veronica Kanini.

A man who was arrested a month ago over the death of a Nakuru-based businesswoman Veronica Kanini has confessed to killing his wife and one-year-old son.

Moses Kipchirchir Ruto, 34, led detectives based in Mogotio to the shallow graves where he dumped the remains of his family members on Monday, December 27.

He said to have admitted to the killings after hours of grilling by detectives who were certain that he had committed many murderous acts.

According to DCI, the bodies of his deceased wife Purity Chebet and the baby boy identified only as Ezra were dumped a few meters from where the body of Kanini was later buried.

"On December 26, after hours of grilling Ruto finally confessed to killing Purity Chebet, 24 and her baby boy Ezra who was one and a half years old.

"He killed them in early September before burying their remains along the banks of River Molo in Mogotio, a few metres from where he would later bury Kanini," DCI statement reads.

The suspect said he committed the beastly act on his family members after a family feud.

Police officers visited the burial scene on Monday and exhumed the decomposing bodies of the suspect's wife and son.

Ruto is believed to have been in a secret love affair with Kanini before they fell out after the Nakuru businesswoman told him that she had found another man.

He, however, could not stomach the rejection hence he resorted to killing Kanini in cold blood.

Detectives are still exploring the possibility of the suspect murdering more people.

The suspect is said to be an ex-convict who was released because of the presidential power of mercy.

The suspect is set for plea taking on January 21, 2022, for the murder of Kanini.
