Police have launched investigations into the alleged abduction of a Somali businessman from his shop at Machakos junction on December 23, 2021.

According to reports, Mohammed Hassan was picked up by unknown men from his shop at around 3 pm on the fateful day. They are said to have claimed to be enforcing Covid-19 protocols.

The businessman's family has since appealed to the government to reveal the whereabouts of their kin who was kidnapped by persons who identified themselves as government officials.

"When the individuals came and asked why they were not wearing a mask everyone in the area scattered including Mohammed, but they went after him and grabbed him from inside the shop," his brother Omar Hassan told Citizen TV.

Omar claimed that the abductors were four and drove a white double-cabin pickup.

He further revealed that CCTV footage from the adjacent building had been tampered with and stopped recording between 2 pm and 5 pm.

“The people we spoke to when we went to his shop say that he was taken by 4 men who targeted him,” Omar said.

“The hotel next to his shop say that the CCTV footage was corrupted and that they are unable to view it," he added.

The family called upon the government's intervention in the matter and urged that proper procedures be followed if he violated any laws.

“We are begging the government to intervene and help us find him.

“If he has committed a crime please present him before a court of law if not we are sure that the government has enough resources to help us identify him," Omar stated.

“It has been very hard for me to talk to my children especially when they ask me where their father is because they have been hearing what people have been saying about his disappearance” Nasteha Hassan, Mohamed’s wife said.

The family reported the matter at Machakos Junction Police Station and are waiting for investigations to conclude.
