The official identified as Joseph Omuya reportedly died at the Coast General Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is in mourning after one of its campaign officials in Msambweni succumbed to Covid-19.

The official identified as Joseph Omuya reportedly died at the Coast General Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

In addition to being one of the chief campaigners in the upcoming Msambweni by-election, Omuya was also the Kwale ODM Organising Secretary.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost one of our chief campaigner's Joseph Omuya, who until his death was the party's Kwale County Organising Secretary,” Kwale ODM Chair Hassan Mwanyoa told Standard.

The deceased is set to be buried on November 19, 2020.

Msambweni ODM Candidate Omar Boga Contracts Covid-19

Meanwhile, the ODM candidate for the Msambweni by-election Omar Boga on Saturday announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Mr Boga was hospitalized at Coast General Hospital for a couple of days, after which he was released after showing improvements.

"Covid-19 is real and hospitals are full so admission is almost impossible. I'm doing fine but I can't interact with my family as I'm locked in a room," Boga told Nation.

He is currently in self-isolation at his home. The Msambweni by-election is set for December 15, 2020.

News of Omuya’s death and Omar contracting the virus is a major setback for ODM as it has slowed down the party’s campaign in the area.
