The DCI asked the family of the victim and Kenyans at large for patience as they follow up on the incident.

The DCI has broken its silence on an incident where a 10-year-boy was hit by a car and left fighting for his life in hospital.

The incident happened on December 28, 2021, along the Kisumu-Kakamega road, reportedly past the roundabout towards Majengo-Luanda road, near Guji Hotel in Vihiga County.

DCI in a statement noted that they have seen complaints and concerns raised by Kenyans on social media and they are acting on the matter.

The DCI asked the family of the victim and Kenyans at large for patience as they follow up on the incident.

"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken cognizance of the many messages sent on our social media pages regarding a traffic case that happened along the Kakamega - Kisumu highway.

"While investigations into the incident that left a 10-year-old boy hospitalized with multiple fractures continue, we are calling on his family to remain calm since the motorist will finally be made to account for her crime," DCI said.

According to the DCI, the minor identified as Trevis Savonge was hit by a speeding vehicle that was being driven by a woman.

The woman is said to have disappeared even after the police arrived at the scene. Member of the public however managed to take pictures of the Subaru car, that allegedly hit the boy, with registration number KCR 635M, owned by Vincent Ochieng Oketch according to NTSA records.

The victim was rushed to Vihiga County referral hospital after the tragedy and was later referred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

The DCI has assured Kenyans that they will act on the matter and grant justice to the minor and his family.

" Motorists who cause accidents and disappear are hereby cautioned that they can run, but cannot hide. The lives of pedestrians and other road users are equally precious," DCI said.
