Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has finally been arrested over his 'Madoadoa' remarks made during Deputy President William Ruto's rally at the Eldoret Sports Club.

The senator was arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives who are attached to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

Linturi was arrested at a hotel in Eldoret on Sunday morning.

His arrest comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji directed the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai to launch investigations into the utterances made by Meru Senator.

The senator made the utterances during the UDA rally in Eldoret on Saturday, January, 8 which Kenyans felt could incite feelings of hatred, violence, and discrimination.

The DPP took note of the remarks directing Mutyambai to hand in a comprehensive report by 14th January 2022.

"Pursuant to Article 157 (4) of the constitution, I hereby direct that you immediately institute comprehensive investigations into the said allegations and submit the resultant investigation file on or before 14th, January 2022," part of the statement read.

Several leaders including Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Saturday, January 8, castigated Senator Mithika Linturi over 'madoadoa' remarks made during the UDA rally in Eldoret Uasin Gishu County.

Governor Kinyanjui called out Linuri for the remarks accusing him of profiling communities living in Eldoret.

Kuria called on leaders who were at the Eldoret rally to rebuke the remarks made by the Meru Senator.

He noted that the remarks could trigger painful memories and open old wounds of the events that transpired in the 07/08 post-election violence.
