Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has threatened to walk out of ANC should the party choose to form a coalition with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

This comes a day after ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi toured Nyamira County on Sunday, January 16, 2022, in the company of other leaders. Nyaribo has expressed concerns that based on the former Vice President's utterances, he is considering a pact with Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking on Monday, January 17, the governor said that he will be forced to decline the position of deputy party leader that was offered to him should ANC join UDA.

He stated that he will not follow anyone to UDA, yet again piling pressure on Mudavadi.

"In my tour of Ikonge today where I visited Ikonge PAG and held a rally in Ikonge town, I reminded our people that we have no future in UDA.

“I hope that my party ANC, in its upcoming National Delegates Conference to be held on January 23, will (make) a decision which works to the best interest of our people and our nation,"  Nyaribo said on his Facebook page after the Mudavadi tour.

"Importantly, my mind is crystal clear that I will not join the UDA bandwagon," he added.

Speaking in Nyamira on Sunday, Mudavadi and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja emphasised on the need for leadership that focuses and empowers the ordinary Mwananchi, drawing similarity to DP Ruto's "Hustler Nation" approach.

Mudavadi rallied residents of Nyamira County to support his political bid.

"I have come here today to ask for your support. I have also come here to rally you to support your Governor Amos Nyaribo and his deputy James Gesami,"  he said, revealing plans to unveil Nyaribo as ANC's deputy party leader.

He asked Nyamira residents for permission to allow governor Nyaribo to engage in national politics.

"We want to know whether you are ready to release him from the county level to national politics," Mudavadi said.

"We (are proud of) Governor Nyaribo, who is an ANC leader. We have faith in him and already, there are proposals from some ANC members to have him take the position of deputy party leader,” he added.
