Speaker Muturi took a jab at Odinga, advising him to avoid dwelling on historical occurrences and instead focus on telling Kenyans what he will do for them.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has dismissed claims that ODM Leader Raila Odinga designed the Thika Superhighway during his term as Prime Minister.

Speaker Muturi took a jab at Odinga, advising him to avoid dwelling on historical occurrences and instead focus on telling Kenyans what he will do for them.

The presidential aspirant who was addressing leaders from Gatundu South in Ruiru on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, stated that there is no evidence to prove Odinga designed the superhighway.

“There are leaders who only give history saying 'mimi ndo nilichora Thika highway', so what?” Muturi posed.

“I can challenge you, if you go to the ministry you will not find his signature. Stop lying to us and tell the people what you will do," he stated.

The National Assembly Speaker was responding to Odinga's remarks while addressing a gathering at Thika Green Stadium in Kiambu on Saturday, January 15.

"They would fight me for demolishing houses to pave way for construction of the superhighway which is still there to date. I have delivered for this nation and I will do even more when I become president," the former premier had stated.

Muturi proceeded to urge politicians to exercise caution in the choice of their words while addressing Kenyans. This the speaker said would go a long way in averting a similar situation in the country as in 2007.

“Recent incitement like the 'madoadoa' remarks in Uasin Gishu will take us back to our tribal inclination. 'Madoadoa' word was even at the Hague,” Muturi said.

“We agreed we forgive each other but not forget. Avoid leaders who are using bad language and spreading hate speech while selling their manifesto," he added.

He further rallied the people of Mount Kenya to vote for a leader who will safeguard their interests and focus on uniting Kenyans.

“In Mt. Kenya region, we have numbers and that's why all leaders want a slice of our votes. If we're not careful we may end up on our own. I urge residents from the mountain not to allow our leaders to divide us,” he stated.

He also took a jab at Deputy President William Ruto for referring to other parties as tribal, stating that his party welcomes all Kenyans regardless of who they are and where they are from.

“There are rumours going around that the party is tribal. The same party gave us President Mwai Kibaki; the same president who appointed you as minister for Agriculture. So stop saying it's tribal, Democratic Party accommodates everyone,” he said.

Muturi is eyeing the presidency and was endorsed as The Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) flagbearer in the August polls.
